Cochrane

Cochrane

The Cochrane River is the outlet of the Cochrane Lake,

therefore its water flow is clear and steady year round. This river is like a giant spring creek, with some white waters present only in a couple of specific parts of its higher and middle sections. At the lower section the water becomes really slow and deep, and it meanders trough the pastures until its confluence with the Baker River.

With its “spring creek like” structure, this river has some deep undercuts at its lower section, home to some browns of epic proportions. It also has weed beds present in most of the river extension, although they become more evident when the water is running low; another perfect structure for the resident fish to hide and feed.

CochraneThe bottom of the river is almost all fine gravel, which makes the fish quite easy to spot; sight fishing is the way to go when fishing the Cochrane. Fishing the Cochrane it’s not easy, but extremely rewarding. Many times we see fish rising all day long, big selective browns and rainbows, and in these cases quiet stalking will work with precise presentations – this is the key to success. Normally we will have nymphs and dries as the main resource here, although big streamers should never be left out of the fly-box. It’s mainly wading fishing.

Special Trips

The Cochrane program includes the chance of daily fishing trips to nearby lakes and rivers. We can also organize camp out expeditions to remote locations on your request, always advisable if a true Patagonian adventure is what you seek.
